Clannad -- The Most Popular japanese Anime Dakimakura Pillow

what is Clannad?

Apart from its amazing story and different plot in comparison to other animes, Clannad is quite famous for one more thing; making people cry. Created by Jun Maeda, Clannad does not disappoint in this regard, as Jun is quite well known for creating series that would blow your mind and make your eyes watery in a matter of minutes. Some of his most notable works include Angel Beats, Charlotte, Air, Kanon, and Clannad, just to name a few. Each of the above series has received rave reviews from a wide audience, as well as been criticized consistently. Jun combines his amazing storytelling capabilities and a vast selection of amazing soundtracks to further build on his stories and provide an experience that no other author can match. The best way to understand Clannad is by looking into the characters in the series, each who have their faults and strengths throughout the entire story.

The beauty of comical novels is the fact that they offer such rich stories and intriguing plots that it may be quite an uphill task to put one down. Transform these novels into series and they become even more intriguing. This adaptable and relatable nature to anime has made each story a joy to watch and each series a pleasure to follow from the beginning to the end. The grand majority of animes are fantasy-based, with the plots aimed towards the fantasy world rather than the more plausible and realistic storylines that other dramatic novels from the West tend to take. It is, therefore, quite intriguing when an anime takes a different approach to creating its story. Clannad is one such series, as it takes a different look into the entire sphere of how an anime should be structured, as well as how a love story can still be amazing without involving elements from the other side.

Tomoya

The entire plot of Clannad revolves around the idea of love and family. The viewer follows the story of Tomoya Okazaki, a young and smart student who has had issues with school. He is known to regularly skip school and also stay out late at night, making him earn a reputation as a delinquent and bad boy. The story begins with Tomoya as a 17-year-old student. He clearly does not like his home town, and often acts out by skipping school and throws the occasional tantrum here and there. Even though he is well known to be a disruptive and difficult student, Tomoya has a mellow side to him. He often takes time to think about his life. However, he does not speak out loud, and instead bottles his thoughts within. His open resentment of his town and his bottled up thoughts create a small monster in him, as he is often sarcastic, sometimes to a fault.

His sarcasm, however, does not get in the way of his love for his friends. Even though he is quite sarcastic, Tomoya is always instrumental in solving his friend’s problems. He clearly loves his friends and family very much, and would do anything to protect and assist them whenever possible. His sarcasm and playful nature at times gets the better of him, as he is well known for playing harmless pranks on his friends and other people. He is quite level-headed, however, as he rarely looks for fights and does not enjoy being involved in altercations.

Even then, Tomoya constantly argues with his father, his only parent at the time. His mother passed on in a car accident, and his father, Naoyuki Okazaki, has taken care of him ever since. His attitude and sarcastic nature earned him a reputation throughout, as some characters such as Nagisa Furukawa stated, he may seem like a terrible person with a foul mouth, but in reality he has a kind heart and also needs as much attention and love as any other person. The story revolves around his love life and his family. Sonuhara, Misae and Yunike rely on Tomoya almost entirely to solve any problems that they feel they may have.

Nagisa Furukawa

Every love story must have the main protagonist’s partner. Nagisa plays this central role, acting as Tomoya’s love as well as being the female lead. Nagisa is a beautiful woman, her short curly hair acting as a highlight to her other amazing features. She is usually dressed in her school uniform throughout the series, even though she rarely attended school due to her poor health. She would often fall sick, thus making it difficult for her to do much else. She however, had brilliant eyes and a fairly large bust.

Nagisa is clearly the sweet and amazing girl in the series. Still on the theme of family, she is quite alike to her mother in terms of character and temperament. She can get offended very easily, and considering Tomoya is constantly being a brat, she often gets angry with him. Her character is also quite humorous, as she uses the types of food she would like to eat as some form of motivation to keep herself going. She is a big fan of pork cutlets and sweet bean bread as well.

Her character is quite important, as she seems to be one of Tomoya’s soft spots. Since the first episode where the two characters meet, in a rather awkward encounter. Tomoya mutters out his thoughts about her, while she motivated herself by mentioning her favorite food, anpan. This brief meeting leads to a story of the two lovebirds going round in circles until the final episode, when Tomoya finally confesses his love to her and the two begin their relationship.

Kyou Fujibayashi

Every love story has a person or group of people trying to break the two main protagonists apart. Kyou can be argued to be the said protagonist. Unlike the other characters throughout the novel and also in the main series, Kyou is quite vocal and determined. She is not the evil witch, however, as she carries the best intentions for all her friends. Her paramount priority is her sister, whom she would do whatever she can to ensure her safety and happiness. Kyou is known to speak out her mind at every moment, and this level of self-confidence has led to her having a reputation of being rude and at times. However, in the middle of all the conflicting emotions, she is also portrayed as a loving and caring young lady.

In the graphic novel, a rumor had been spread that Kyou and Tomoya had been seen in the forest alone almost kissing. This rumor created a notion that Kyou was also interested in Tomoya, and would be competition for all the other girls who liked Tomoya, including her younger twin. In the animated series, however, Kyou is depicted as her sister’s protector. She would regularly get into other people’s faces if she even thought that her sister was being taken advantage of. Her character is somewhat confusing, as in some episodes, she would seem to be in love with Tomoya. However, her love for her sister is more important to her than her love for Tomoya, and thus can be explained as the main reason why she would fight off all competition for her sister to get her chance with Tomoya.

Kyou’s character can be argued to be one of the saddest characters in the series. She is loving and selfless. However, in being selfless, she begins to hurt herself and break apart. The man she supposedly loves does not notice the breakdown, and she remains desolate and sad; all the while still protecting her sister’s interests. This is the reason I believe that she is one of the main characters in the entire series, regardless of the fact that she was not properly covered throughout the series.

Ryou Fujibayashi

The final character that makes the entire love rectangle is Ryou. She is the younger of the twins, and is often protected by her elder sister like a mother would protect her child. She has been used as a symbol of familial love, as her sister has protected her throughout the series. Ryou is slightly different from her beloved sister, as she has different hair and also has very droopy eyes. However, she has a very voluptuous figure, and can be considered to be attractive.

Ryou is clearly in love with Tomoya, and has loved the main protagonist since their junior year. She, however, attempted to hide her feelings towards him in a bid not to hurt her sister in the process of chasing after the love of her life. In Another World: Kyou Chapter, Ryou is able to ask Tomoya out, despite the fact that she is quite timid and can get flustered very easily. The two end up going on a date, however, the relationship does not come up as the two are not able to show any affection for each other. The Two dating affected Kyou, who ended up kissing another character, Sunohara, in order to cover up the feelings she had for Tomoya.

The kiss did little to change the fact that she loved Tomoya. Sonuhara noticed and asked her out loud if she did love Tomoya, and Ryou finally accepted that she was in love with Tomoya. This led to Tomoya breaking up with Ryou to date her sister, leaving Ryou heartbroken. The rest of her character was based on humor, as she was into fortune telling. However, none of her predictions ever came to pass, except one. Her route was one of the sad stories within as well, but was clearly doomed from the beginning.

There were other characters throughout the series who were also instrumental in the creation and fruition of the story. Ichinose Kotomi is one such character, who’s story takes a dark turn, leading to the rather delightful character being more of a silent, depressed persona. Ushio happens to be the daughter of Tomoya and Nagisa. She is a more upbeat character in comparison to her rather shy mother. These characters make the entire story more interesting and intriguing. Furthermore, the characters bring out the main protagonist’s personalities even better.

who would make a perfect body pillow?

I believe a pillow like such needs to be based on the story within the anime. Each of the main protagonists plays a great role in the development of the story. Tomoya is the center of the story. Each of the main female protagonists revolves around him and therefore creates a separate story or ending that he needs to choose. He remains as the face of the entire series, as without it, the series would not exist. His wit and sarcasm also made him a rather loveable character. His constant battles also add spice to the story and make it even more loveable.

Nagisa, on the other hand, is a symbol of undying love. She was able to get her man in the end, and never lost hope. Her sickly character also brought about a great number of sad moments throughout the series. Ryou was also an amazing character throughout the series, showing how much she loved Tomoya and ended up asking him out. It was sad that they could not be, and that their love story could not be completed. In the end, Tomoya and Nagisa were meant to be and it was the only positive end result.

However, Kyou deserves to be transformed into the pillow. Her vocal and selfless character made her an interesting and integral character throughout the series. She is the most hurt by the fact that she has to hide her feelings so that her sister can have the man she dreamt of. She later would break down as she could not break away from her man. Her story is by far the saddest story throughout the entire series, and her image deserves to be on a pillow.
